I had the pleasure to listen to Rob Bell for the first time during the Oprah’s The Life You Want Weekend back in November. I just loved every single word he said. I bought one of his books (I am on its half), and it is fabulous!

Last week I knew he was recording a podcast. What? Rob Bell’s podcast? I am in!

Today, the episode one is on! Don’t miss it. You will love it/him!

LIFE | I will make my bed with clean sheets

Posted on Wednesday, January 7, 2015

My husband and I are going to visit our families in less than two weeks. It will be a quick trip out of the country because we are no longer on vacation or holiday.

The other day, while planning things for the trip, I took a note on my Wunderlist to remember to clean the house and make the bed with clean sheets the day before we leave. Why did I take a note about that if I switch the sheets of my bed weekly? Because the hours before leaving for a trip are always too busy, and I want to make sure to have time for those tasks too. After typing, I thought “Why clean sheets?” The thought became lost and with no answer in the middle of my most urgent tasks of that day.

Today, I found not only a great article to read but also the answer for my question about making my bed with clean sheets before going for a 13-day trip:

future-self

Yes, I was planning something for my future self: the one that will come back home very tired after 24+ hours in planes, buses, taxis, and hours of waiting at airports.

LIFE | 5 (not too) simple steps a day

Posted on Sunday, January 4, 2015

.

To accomplish my goals, and also simple daily tasks, I really need to build SELF-DISCIPLINE. I am glad that, even though SELF-DISCIPLINE is not a simple ability, I have identified it as necessary, and it is something everyone can learn.

However, SELF-DISCIPLINE requires, in my opinion, planning and a routine.

.

Due to that, I developed 5 steps that I want to take from Monday to Saturday, starting at 6am:

.

STEP ONE – Inspiration, intention for the day, and meditation

Currently, I enjoy watching Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday, Oprah Prime, and Oprah Master’s Class. I have been recording the programs, so I can watch one of them when I need inspiration, or when I have a free time. I always learn something, and/or make some notes to search more later. Even though I prefer reading before sleep time, once in a while I will read instead of watching a program on TV.

The intention for the day can be written or made mentally, or also the tasks on my agenda.

Meditation… ah, meditation! It is something I really want to incorporate in my life. I made some attempts in the past, but before to sleep. I want to try it as one of the first things I will do in my day, or during a break, or when needed.

.

STEP TWO – Study English

[1 pomodoro*]

2015 will make a difference in my English skills. I really want to communicate in English error free. For that, I will study something (grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary, etc.) daily.

.

STEP THREE – Study for my Master’s Degree (read, write, research)

[4 to 6 pomodoros*]

This year will be fundamental for my research. I do not have time to waist with other things. Doing this Master’s Degree is my choice, so there is no discussion about it. SELF-DISCIPLINE, SELF-DISCIPLINE, SELF-DISCIPLINE.

.

STEP FOUR – Hobby time

After 5 to 7 hours of study (English + research), I will deserve a free time. I will probably be ready for free time around 3 – 4pm. I will use this time for a variety of things I want to do: photography, Project Life, reading as a hobby, doing new projects, learning something new. Whatever I want to do at that moment, I will do.

.

STEP FIVE – House time

After playing one or two hours, I will clean or organize something around the house. I have a big list of things-house related to do!

.

.

*I am using the Pomodoro Timer Lite app for Android. My Pomodoros are 50-minutes work + 10-minutes break. Sometimes I take a 30-minutes break after 2 completed Pomodoros.

IMPORTANT: To be able to do these 5 daily steps, I am going to bed around 8pm.

>> I will share soon my first days taking these steps.

PLAN | Project Life 2015 + cover page!

Posted on Tuesday, December 30, 2014

It was around October when I realized what I want for Project Life 2015.

I always have to convince myself that it is better to use my time to (write any task here such as organize my photographs, do project life, etc.) from today on than to try to put the lasts months/years in order and to make them work for me as I planned but got behind.

In other words, in October I realized that I won’t be able to print and organize all my 2014 photos into my Project Life album. It will be one more year for a photo book. Simple as that. I have to accept it and put a period here.

.

.

I started buying physical products for Project Life for the first time in 2013 because they are very expensive in my home country (and now I am living in Canada!!!). I made a few pages in 2013, and a few more pages in 2014.

Since I am a Master’s Degree student, I don’t have much time for my hobbies. I’d love to meet other students like myself, because I really feel alone in the memory keeping world. I love memory keeping, but memory keeping is not my job, nor my priority at the moment. I simply can’t choose what to do with my time when I have lots of assignments to write and books to read. I am not complaining; don’t get me wrong. I really love studying! However, I had to find a way to keep photos and stories that can possibly work for me.

.

.

Things I learned about my memory keeping process:

  1. I need all things ready for use.
  2. I need a clean space to just open my album and insert memorabilia and photos in it.
  3. I have to keep it simple – sometimes, much more simple than I’d like to.

.

.

For 2015, I plan (and I hope to be able to do):

.

>>>>> Chronological spreads. Since 2014, I decided to just print my best photos (the photos I really want to see again and again) and insert them as life happens. Sometimes I will have one page per week, sometimes 3, or more.

.

>>>>> Albums. I don’t care about how many albums I will need for the year. I will use a 12×12 album. Because I want to buy WRMK leather albums for my Project Life, and I will do it only when I really have real albums filled with photos and not just a few pages, I am going to use a cheaper album I bought on sale some months ago. It is an album that I did not like, but since it was cheaper I decided to use it while I fill it all, then I will move all my pages to the new album.

.

>>>>> Page protectors. I just love design A, and I have lots of design A page protectors. So I don’t plan to switch the design. Maybe I will insert some envelopes for extras.

.

we3_PLapproach2015_04

.

>>>>> Cards. I have two complete core kits: Seafoam and Kiwi, and a few cards from a few other core kits that I bought on Instagram a long time ago. I also have six months of Studio Calico kits for Project Life. However, I realized that I LOVE CREATING MY OWN CARDS! I am collecting images and quotes, so I can print and own only things I really like. I also have a few of digital cards. Once in a while I print some cards at Staples (digital, images, and my own creation) and add them to my whole collection of cards.

.

>>>>> Embellishments. Some of my embellishments are from the SC kits, others I bought in small packs, and others I printed at home. When I realized that SC are not my style at all, I started saving the money to buy embellishments I really love. Because I have a drawer full of embellishments, I think I just need to use what I have in 2015! Also, I really want to play with stamps, watercolors, stitches, and embossing.

.

>>>>> Journaling. I love my handwriting, I just need to stop worrying when I make a mistake. By the way, I am still working on this motto. In addition to adding my handwriting, I am planning to use a lot the new (to me) antique typewriter I bought from Thrift Store last month.

.

.

>>>>> Sharing the pages here on my blog. Ok, lets be realistic: it is a dream, and if I can accomplish it, it will be a bonus!

.

>>>>> Printing the photos. I have an Epson Picture Mate because I can’t rely on the printer stores of my city. For me, the price of printing at home is the same or cheaper. I am just not 100% happy with its paper size: the paper is not 4×6, it is a little smaller (and I don’t like that).

.

>>>>> Notes. Actually, I don’t take notes about things that happen in our lives. And I think that with the way I will approach Project Life next year I will not need them. When I have cards and photos ready to use, I simply write on them things I currently remember.

.

we3_PLapproach2015_06

.

>>>>> Memorabilia. Ah, these are my favourites! I just LOVE adding memorabilia to my Project Life. The reason is because I always collected papers of all kinds but did not have a place to store them properly. Now I have: my PL pages!

.

>>>>> Borders and corners. Here is something I still have to decide how to do or just accept how it already is. I prefer white borders on photos, but because I also like rounded corners, they don’t match. And because I am a little bit perfectionist and the cards from core kits and SC kits have rounded borders, I round the borders of everything.

.

>>>>> Everyday snaps. I want to add more about our favourite food of the moment, the books we are reading, my cat’s favourite games, objects we buy, etc.

.

we3_PLapproach2015_07

.

>>>>> Inspiration. Michelle Stinson. I just LOVE her process for Project Life. I am sad that she decided to stop sharing her pages and videos, but I always get lots of inspiration when I watch her old videos – and I do it on a frequent basis!

.

>>>>> Primary memory keeping approach. Yes, I already started making my photo books (I will share here my 2006 photo book when I have time for it), and they will be from 2006 to 2014 (9 years of photos in photo books). From 2015 on, I am planning to be able to make Project Life albums with all my photos, except Instagram photos (I started last year putting them all in small photo books).

.

we3_PLapproach2015_08

.

>>>>> So, when I will play with my Project Life albums?

This is the most important part of my 2015 approach. Just because I feel that I am not the boss of my time due to my Master’s Degree commitments, I want to print photos, add them to the pockets, and then add cards, embellishments and text at any time during my day and my week. I will not have a specific day for Project Life (I already try it in 2014). I want to pick my stuff up and put them on the table when I am tired studying, when I finished an assignment, when I am waiting for my husband come back from work, or before going to bed.

Because I want to play with photos and PL stuff at any time I need my printer ready to just push the button and print photos, my album, cards, and embellishments available at any time in the reach of my arms. I don’t have time to do a weekly or monthly basis approach. Also, I am not talking about a daily approach! If I have 15 minutes, I can print some photos AND ADD THEM INTO THE POCKETS right away. Then, I will have half an hour during an evening, so I will add some cards and journaling. Minutes after eating something different, I will crop and add the memorabilia in the empty pocket. SIMPLE AS THAT look like! I want to live and do Project Life almost at the same time. Let’s see if I am being realistic or not. Fingers crossed!

.

I will end this post with an illustrated summary of my 2015 plan for PL: I decided to take some photos to illustrate this post, and, minutes later, I finished the page cover without intent on that – the intention was to take some pictures with some of my PL stuff and, maybe, create the first page, not the cover page.

It is this, friends! Do I have time? Do I have my PL stuff? So, let’s play RIGHT NOW!

Below, you can see more pictures about how I came up with the cover for my 2015 Project Life album: (PS. The third photo, below, shows my husband handwriting his One Little Word® for 2015 and its definition. Is that awesome, isn’t it? It was a last minute idea, and I just love it!)
